Ancestor Speak

Learning the Wisdom of Autumn

One Potent Day in the Darkening Woods

Hello, friend. I’m sorry to share that this workshop has been canceled. To stay informed about future offerings, you can sign up to receive my weekly newsletter on all things nature, anti-capitalism, vocation, and more.

The Highlights:

  • This is an all-day workshop where you’ll learn ways to communicate with the land and with your ancestors

  • We will meet on Saturday, October 28th

  • We’ll be outside, under cover, around the fire, surrounded by an Old Growth forest at Eagle Fern Park

  • Cost: $333 (can be paid in full or over 6 payments of $55.50)

In the Autumn season, we’re invited to get very close to the ground.

The deciduous leaves draw our eyes from up high and down into the wet, composting soil at the base of their former homes.

The ground is where the dead live. It’s where our souls root in.

Many of us forget that there are a host of beings that want to teach us and guide us as we attempt to create lives rooted in meaning and purpose.

We’re so used to trying to navigate capitalism and work on our own, but then the Autumn season comes to show us how freeing it is to let go.

We can let go of our preconceived notions of what our work should be.
We can let go of our ideas about what is and isn’t worthy work to do.
We can let go of our grip on how an income should come in, and when.

By turning your ear to the ground, you can receive the Autumnal medicine that is uniquely yours.

In Ancestor Speak, around the fire and under the trees, we will listen to older, wiser sources, and we will step further into the good work that is calling to us.

In This Workshop, You Can Expect to Develop:

  • Ancestral skills for intuiting your next best steps so that you can feel steady in your choices and not like you’re forcing things into being

  • A line of communication between you, your soulful self, the work you’re meant to do, and the wild world that supports your desire to make a life, not just a living

  • A sharper focus for how you’re meant to be of service and meet your needs through your work right now

Megan has such a presence, balancing strength and wisdom with curiosity and grace. Any time I spend with her and others who are drawn to her orbit ends up feeling serendipitous and incredibly fulfilling. Should you have the opportunity to participate in a workshop or other event with Megan, prepare to be vulnerable in the best way possible, knowing that you will be held, respected and connected to all others in the space.

This Potent Time of Year

This workshop will occur right before an old pagan holiday called Samhain, when the veil between our world and the spirit world feels very thin. Many cultures honor this time in the cycle of the year, through holidays such as Halloween, Dia de los Muertos, All Souls’ Day, and more.

In our time together, you’ll learn how to invite support from your beloved dead and listen deeply to the messages that are circling in your life at this time.

All beliefs and traditions are welcome at Ancestor Speak. My intention is to help you amplify your own authentic practices and relationships.

Who This is For

  • People who are feeling the need for a shift in their lives and are ready to see the challenges in front of them with new eyes

  • Thoughtful, conscientious people who have an appreciation for the wisdom found in the natural world and want to bring more Autumnal medicine into their lives

  • People who have done some foundational work to learn more about their own soulfulness and are open to intuitive techniques and traditions that may feel more magical

  • Anyone ready to connect to their purpose and commit to living it out in a courageous way

This offering is meant to attune your ear to a deeper knowledge and way of being in the world.

If you are ready to listen to a wisdom much older than us, act on what you hear, and renew your courage in service to a larger life, then I hope you’ll join us.

Who We Are

Megan Leatherman:

As a coach, writer, tarot reader and community steward over the last eight years, I have had to confront my own sense of disconnection to my purpose and give birth to a different way of showing up in the world.

My work is rooted in animist, Earth-based spirituality, meaning that I believe the planet is alive and sacred. The deeper I go into the seasonal rhythms, the more I learn about the importance of being in conversation with the wild world, which includes the ancestors that come before and after us.

In this workshop, you will be invited to connect to the larger wisdom that makes sense to you in order to understand your own good work and how it wants to be of service to the world right now. You can read more about my background here.

Heather Dorfman:

I am so honored that Heather will be holding space with me and bringing her deep presence and insights to our time together.

Heather Dorfman, LMSW (she/her) is a Certified Forest Therapy Guide and founder of Rose and Cedar Forest Therapy. After many years of supporting children, youth, and adults who are grieving or in crisis, Heather now partners with the natural world to offer Forest Therapy - a gentle, accessible, supportive and trauma-sensitive practice. In addition to guiding Forest Therapy, Heather offers organizational consulting and training, and is an adjunct professor at the Portland State University School of Social Work.

In all of these realms, Heather works for a world of liberation, and for the thriving and connection of all beings.

A Note About Land Connection:

As a descendant of white settlers, I am attempting to connect deeply with land in a way that interrupts ongoing colonization. In an effort to honor the lineage of care and intimacy with the land that Native inhabitants have cultivated over thousands of years, I will be making offerings to the land ahead of time, we will do so as part of our workshop, we will leave the space better than we found it, and 2.5% of net revenue will be donated in the spirit of repair (which is true for all revenue in my business). For workshop revenue, this payment will be made to Columbia Riverkeeper, in support of their work to save Salmon and Southern Resident Orcas.
